Abstract Identifying the future threats to crop yields from climate change is vital underpin continuous production increases needed for global food security. In present study, vulnerability of European wheat yield heat and drought stresses around flowering under was assessed by estimating 95-percentiles two indices at rain-fed conditions: stress index (HSI95) (DSI95). These represent relative losses due or that could be expected occur once every 20 years on average. Heat tolerance around flowering in wheat identified as a key trait for increased yield potential in Europe under climate change

To deliver food security for the 9 billon population in 2050, a 70% increase in world food supply will be required. Projected climatic and environmental changes emphasize the need for breeding strategies that delivers both a substantial increase in yield potential and resilience to extreme weather events such as heat waves, late frost, and drought. Heat stress around sensitive stages of wheat d...

Elevated CO2 maintains grassland net carbon uptake under a future heat and drought extreme.

Extreme climatic events (ECEs) such as droughts and heat waves are predicted to increase in intensity and frequency and impact the terrestrial carbon balance. However, we lack direct experimental evidence of how the net carbon uptake of ecosystems is affected by ECEs under future elevated atmospheric CO2 concentrations (eCO2). Taking advantage of an advanced controlled environment facility for ...
